Engelie Blomerus was born in South Africa and is currently living in Lowell, Massachusetts. She immigrated with her family to America in 1999. She has been married 40 years to her best friend and confidant, Tian Blomerus. She is the proud mother of two now grown children and enjoys her grandchildren.
Mrs. Blomerus completed her studies in Fine Arts at the Nelson Mandela University in South Africa. Previously known as Port Elizabeth Technicon. In South Africa she taught art at the Uitenhage Technical College. She also gave private art classes. She was involved in Community work in South Africa, especially in the area of youth work. She was involved in an HIV/AIDS prevention program in the High Schools.
In the United States, she has taught art at Lowell Catholic High School and for the last 10 years at Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter High School. She is the owner and director of Lighthouse Art School, where she shares her passion for art with her students.
Her love for children and her passion to see them reach their full potential is the inspiration behind her teaching career. Her whole outlook on life is shaped by the fact that she became a Christian during her student years at art school. Her life is centered and based on the bible and her relationship with her Heavenly Father. Art journaling has become her passion as she express bible scripture into colors and mark making.
Over the last few years she founded an organization to assist refugees from Syria and Iraq, called Gateway of Grace Lowell. This has become a journey of rich friendships and experiences.
